First state. The main chart focuses on the Islands of the Cape Verde group. Above is an inset of Praya bay and below printed from a separate plate is a View of Praya Bay with coastal profiles. The chart was published in Robert Sayer and John Bennett’s ‘East India Pilot’ an atlas designed to supply the East India merchants with maps of the relevant lands on the route to the East. The Cape Verde Islands were a convenient stopping off point near to home. Shirley BL M.Say 3a no. 17.
