A fine original coloured view of the Cape of Good Hope showing Table Mountain with Cape Town beneath it. The engraving is after a painting by Jan Van Ryne (1712-60). It shows numerous vessels offshore and Robben Island in the distance on the right. The fort and church are prominently displayed along with a number of buildings. Van Ryne is believed to have worked in London from 1752-55. One of the finest eighteenth century views of Cape Town in full original colour. Gordon Brown (Alfred) ‘Pictorial Africana’ p. 234.
