First edition, complete with the first printed geological map of Texas, bearing a blue library stamp. Ferdinand Roemer, who achieved international renown as a geologist, journeyed to the United States in 1845 under the auspices of the Society for the Protection of German Emigrants. For nearly two years he visited Texas, writing this pioneering study of the physical features and geology of the Texas countryside.
