Ptolemy’s map of central Asia as issued by Laurent Fries in the 1541 edition. By now Fries whose maps were first issued in the 1522 edition had died. The wood blocks found their way into the possession of Melchoir and Gaspar Treschel. This edition was published in Lyon but printed in Vienne.
