A superb example of Blaeu’s county map of Sussex with extensive gilt decoration to the title cartouche and armorial decorations. With such large margins this example with Spanish text to the verso is almost certainly from the 1672 edition of the ‘Atlas Major’. Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) is one of the most famous of the Dutch cartographers. The fourth volume of his atlas focused on England and Wales.
