A lovely fresh example of an uncommon map. The maps of Benjamin Baker were first published in the Universal Magazine in issued from 1791-93. There next appearance in print was in William Darton and Joseph Harvey’s “Maps of the Several Counties …”, 1804. In 1806 Laurie and Whittle published the maps in the “New and Improved English Atlas”, 1806. It is from this work which this map of Sussex is drawn, complete with the imprint of Laurie and Whittle dated 1806. Chubb 294; Kingsley 56.
