An apparently UNRECORDED map, certainly the name Folsch is unknown in cartographic circles and does not appear in either Tooley’s ‘Dictionary’ or Worms and Baynton-Williams’ work on British engravers. An F. Folsch is listed in Book Trade Index as a pen and quill maker in 1817 in Oxford Street. It is interesting to note that a Bartholomew Folsch received the first English patent for a reservoir or fountain pen issued in 1809. The address for both records is the same 327 Oxford Street, London. Pigot’s Directory for 1825-6 records F. Folsch as trading in Burlington Arcade as a Ladies Fan Maker. An update to Worms and Baynton-Williams’ work on British Engravers provides a since uncovered biography of Folsch.
