The second edition of Christopher Saxton’s great atlas is actually considerably rarer than the first. Skelton cites only 2 examples since expanded to just 3 known. It is engraved by Franciscus Scatterus who engraved just two plates for the Saxton atlas, the other being Cheshire. The most obvious difference from the first state is the altered date in the title. Unlike a number of other plates in this edition the title remained in Latin. King ‘Staffordshire’ no. 1; Skelton 27.
