This classic map is derived from Gerard Mercator’s exceedingly important wall map of the British Isles of 1564 printed in eight sheets. The text on the verso is in German and the pagination indicates that the map was issued in the edition of 1580. This example is in its first state from Ortelius’ ‘Theatrum Orbis Terrarum’.
