Benedetto Bordone’s ‘Libro’ is designed like a traditional Isolario of the day, as a collection of maps of islands. This leaf contains a map of Madagascar and Zanzibar at the bottom of the page. That above it is rumoured to depict the region of Singapore according to Suarez. On the verso we find a further map of Scilam or Sumatra. Armstrong in ‘Imago Mundi’ no. 48 pp. 65-92; Karrow pp. 89-93; Shirley Atlases in the BL T.Bord 1a no. 23; Suarez p. 121.
BORDONE, Benedetto
