This very rare map comes from the very rare first edition of Jean Boisseau’s ‘Tresor des Carte Geographiques’. Although earlier French works contained sets of continental maps this was the first world atlas published in France. Boisseau was an active publisher in Paris. The atlas consisted of just thirty-eight maps. It was prepared for the education of the eight-year old future King Louis XIV. The maps are largely derived from Johannes Janssonius’ “Atlas Minor” first published in Amsterdam, 1628. Pastoureau Tresor Aa no. 15; Phillips 3424.
