A translation of the London 1766 edition originally published in Philadelphia in 1765, describing Bouquet’s 1763 expedition to relieve Fort Pitt which was besieged by the Shawnee, Delaware and other Indian tribes. The campaign ended the Pontiac War. The lasting effect was to open up the Ohio Valley to English expansion and settlement. The London edition was accompanied by a folding map after Thomas Hutchins which was in two halves. Here it is represented by two separate maps. That of the Ohio region shows the course of the Ohio and Muskingum River’s and the positions of the Indian villages relative to Bouquet’s forces. The second map features the actual march of Bouquet from Fort Pitt in 1764. Howes S693; Sabin 84647.
