This map of Prussia is derived from that of Caspar Henneberger (1529-1600) whose large woodcut map was published in 1576. It displays both Dantzk (Gdansk) in the west and Konigsperg (Kaliningrad) in the centre. This Abraham Ortelius version was first published in the ‘Additamentum’ of 1584 to the first modern atlas, the ‘Theatrum Orbis Terrarum’. This example was issued in the Spanish text edition of 1588 with the pagination 87 to the verso. This is the first of two similar plates, this was replaced in 1595 by another. Jãger (1982) p. 52; Karrow (1993) 1.150; Meurer pp. 164-5; Van den Broecke (1996) #156.
