The first edition published by the ‘Pall Mall Gazette’ in 1892. The eighty-eight page are illustrated throughout by Louis Wain. This work is typical of his early pre-anthropomophic style. Peter was the large black and white family cat to Louis and his wife Emily Wain and his image was used in much of his early works. Louis Wain wrote of Peter, “To him properly belongs the foundation of my career, the developments of my initial efforts, and the establishing of my work.” This particular story is based on the exploits of Peter. A good copy of one of the rarest of Wain’s books. Claire Necker ‘Four Centuries of Cat Books: A Bibliography, 1570-1970’ no. 1395.
