The first state of Johannes Van Keulen’s first map of Ceylon now known as Sri Lanka. It is orientated to the west and includes a decorative cartouche and mileage scale. Beautifully engraved it is finished with a hunting scene, elephant and three ships offshore. The city of Kandy is prominently identified at the centre. Koeman (1967-70) IV p. 376 no. 28.
