This superb sea chart of the east coast of England from Aldeburgh in Suffolk to Flamborough Head in Yorkshire was first published in the magnificent ‘Lichtende Zee-Fakkel’ in around 1688. Unlike many charts this includes inland detail such as the towns of Lincoln, Ely and Norwich amongst others. The firm of Van Keulen was founded around 1680 with the publication of the ‘Zee Atlas’. The multi volume ‘Zee Fakkel’ followed soon after. This is an example of the second state with the addition of ‘Sunke I’ in the mouth of the Humber amongst other updates and a change of pagination to ’22’ lower right. This second state first appears according to Koeman from 1706 which is corroborated by the extra large margins which accompany these early eighteenth century editions. With an attractive title cartouche. Koeman (1967-70) IV p. 378 no. 46 st. 2 Keu 38A.
