This map is from Vander Maelen’s ‘Atlas Universel de Geographie Physique, Statistique et Mineralogique’. The atlas was the first published in lithograph and formed a Sanson-Flamsteed projected globe of 7.75 metres in diameter. This was constructed in the ‘Etablissement Geographique’ in Brussels. A total of 400 maps were produced covering the world on the same scale throughout. Oceanique No.11 is a map of the northern region of Sumatra or Indonesia with the region of BANDA ACEH featured at the top, the scene of the devastating tsunami which struck the region on 26 December 2004. Koeman III Vdm 1.
