This penny broadside is listed in ‘The Piozzi Letters: 1817-1821’ and given the date of circa June 1803. In Marianna D’Ezio’s ‘Hester Lynch Thrale Piozzi: A Taste for Eccentricity’ (p. 109) it states that Mrs Piozzi ‘anonymously sent the pamphlet ‘Old England to Her Daughters. Address to the Females of Great Britain’ to Robert Faulder for publication: it is Piozzi’s only official publication after her last work, ‘Retrospection’, and depicts England as an old lady who spurs British women to be firm and resolute with the French in case of an invasion of Britain’. Bloom & Bloom ed. ‘The Piozzi Letters’ Volume 6 p. 41; D’Ezio (as above) p. 109.
