The western sheet of three regional maps covering England and Wales, as first issued by Frederick de Wit c.1690. Its covereage extends from Cornwall to the Isle of Wight in the south through Lancashire and parts of Ireland and the Isle of Man. The whole of Wales is at the centre of the map. De Wit (1630-1706) was one of the most successful Dutch engravers and map publishers of the second half of the seventeenth century. In 1689 he received a privilege which he promptly added to his plates. De Wit continued in business it seems until his death in 1706 at the age of seventy-six. His widow continued the shop until 1709. In 1710 the majority of the stock was sold to Pierre Mortier, who himself died the following year. Koeman Wit 13, nos. 90.
