A fine example of the chart of the English Channel by Justus Danckerts derived from that in the ‘Neptune François’ of 1693. Here Danckerts extends the coverage slightly further south to the River Loire but more significantly records considerably detail inland which was entirely lacking in the earlier chart. Displayed in England is much of Essex, the whole of the south coast around to the Bristol Channel and South Wales. Towns as far north as Buckingham and Cambridge are recorded.

Like the chart of 1693 it records the location of the Four Days naval engagement in 1666 between the English and the Dutch near the Dover Straits, here marked with crossed swords. The naval battle of Beachy Head is similarly identified and dated 1690 off the coast of Sussex. In addition, Danckerts also adds the naval battle of La Hogue fought off Normandy in 1692 between Anglo-Dutch forces and the French.

Cornelis Danckerts (1561-1631) began the family tradition as a printseller active in Antwerp. His son, confusingly known as Cornelis the elder (1603-56) was a noted engraver of several maps. He had two sons, Dancker Danckerts (1634-66) and Justus Danckerts (1635-1701), both following in the business, but it was the latter who grew it. The atlases published by the family are very rare, never bore a dated title page, and few of the individual maps contained one. The date of this map is given as approximately 1695.
