This superb sea chart of the east coast of England from Flamborough Head in Yorkshire to the FIrth of Forth was first published in the magnificent ‘Lichtende Zee-Fakkel’ in 1686. There is a fine inset upper left of the River Tyne up to and including Newcastle. The firm of Van Keulen was founded around 1680 with the publication of the ‘Zee Atlas’. The multi volume ‘Zee Fakkel’ followed soon after. This is an example of the second state with the addition of some shoals and soundings and the alteration of the page number from 17 to 23. This second state first appears according to Koeman from 1709. Koeman (1967-70) IV p. 378 no. 47 st. 2 Keu 28.
