A curious map of the region from the Eastern Mediterranean to the South East Asian peninsula. It depicts ‘the various routes taken by the descendants of Noah when disembarking from the Ark’ (Laor). ‘The passage of Nimrod’ and ‘The passage of Ophir en Hauilah into India’. The Arck itself is located in the mountains of present-day northern Afghanistan. The map is decorated with an ornate half compass rose. It comes from Sir Walter Raleigh’s ‘History of the World’, published in London 1614. Although unsigned the map is generally believed to have been engraved by William Hole. Laor 335.
