This fine map of Manhattan depicts the island in the middle of the American Revolution. Engraved by Thomas Kitchin it was published in the April 1778 issue of the ‘London Magazine’, one of the leading newspapers of the day in England. It shows ‘Bowry Lane’ leading northwards down the middle of the island. The top of the island bears ‘Fort Washington now Kniphausen’. Roads on eastern Long Island are also displayed.
