A large, detailed and decorative map of India made for the East India Company. The dedicatee Sir James Carnac was on the board of the Company. The map is divided into its regions by coloured borders with all towns shown. The Military stations are underlined on the map and a chart on the right hand side of the map gives details about their locations as well as population details for Hindoustan. A chart at the top right hand corner provides the distances between all major cities and towns. An interesting footnote lower right records ‘This Map will serve to illustrate the Dispatches of the Duke of Wellington’. Provenance: private collection of Rodney Shirley.
