This rare map centred on the Mediterranean Sea accompanied the ‘Theatri Orbis Terrarum Parergon’ of Abraham Ortelius’ atlas which was published by Balthasar Moretus in 1624. The cartographic source for this map is Franciscus Haraeus who was a geographer from Antwerp who designed a globe in 1617. He would later contribute to the important ‘Orbis Antiquis’ by George Hornius 1653. The map is surrounded by explanatory text with placenames as they appear in the bible and other holy works. Koeman 43P; Van den Broecke, M. 185.
