A good fresh example of George Louis Le Rouge’s first map of the British Isles. Le Rouge (c.1712-c.90) was a military engineer and produced many maps of a military nature. The map bears insets of the Faroe, Orkney and Shetland Islands and a smaller one nearby of the Channel Islands. Shirley states that it ’embodies the most up-to-date geographical outline’. The North Sea below is embellished with a naval scene during battle. Upper left is the ornate title cartouche. Provenance: Doreen Green 1986, private English collection. Shirley Le Rouge 1.
