An rare attractive map of the whole of Scotland in two sheets first published in Nicolas Sanson’s ‘Les Cartes Generales de Toutes les Parties du Monde’ in 1665. Sanson was France’s premier cartographer and helped to lift the field onto another level during his career. This is an uncommon map as it was not issued from the first edition of 1658 and along with its scale is a desirable one. The cartography is derived from the Scottish atlas of Joan Blaeu published in the ‘Atlas Major’ edition of 1662. Moir I p. 172 nos. 2 & 3; Pastoureau, M. Sanson V B, 120.
