An attractive double-hemispheric celestial map by Jacques Chiquet (c.1673-1721) who was a French cartographer and engraver working in Paris on the Rue St. Jacques. The first edition of this atlas was produced in collaboration with Antoine Menard in 1711 and entitled ‘Le Nouveau et Curieux Atlas’. It was produced by himself and dedicated to the Duc D’Orleans. This later edition of the same plate has had Menard’s imprint removed. Although the title page is undated, 1719 is found on most of the maps within. Phillips (1909-) 4279; Shirley (2004) T.Chi 1a; Tooley’s Dictionary (1999-2004).
