The rare first state of this map of Eastern North America which shows French and English territorial claims from a decidedly French perspective. The British colonies are squeezed along the Atlantic seaboard, while France controls the entire interior. It depicts the Mississippi Valley in detail with a number of legends and it reaching the Gulf of Mexico near the mouth of the Rio Grande. The map was engraved by Herman van Loon and comes from de Fer’s ‘Atlas Curieux’. Karpinski, p. 124, pl. 9.; McCorkle 702.2.
