Pierre vander Aa published several works but the most notable is undoubtedly the extremely rare ‘La Galerie Agreable du Monde’, the Library of Congress example runs to sixty-six volumes! Only 100 copies of this atlas were reputably printed. This view of Derbent on the western shore of the Caspian Sea is from the 52nd volume. Described as being in Persia it is in fact in present day Russia. Koeman I Aa 9 vol. 52 no. 12; Shirley ‘Atlases in the British Library’ T.Aa 5a.
