Paolo Forlani (fl.1560-71) was born in Verona but was active as an engraver in Venice from about 1560 to 1571. This is an enlarged map of that found in the first edition of Ruscelli’s ‘Geographia’ published in Venice 1561. It should be noted that there are two virtually indistinguishable plates. The main difference is that here the date is in roman numerals whereas the other also attributed to Forlani bears it in arabic. Refer Meurer (2004) Strabo Atlas no. 109 for the similar but different copper plate; Tooley (1939) 436; Woodward (1990) no. 56.
