In the early 1860’s Alvin Jewitt Johnson took control of the atlas publishers G. Woolworth Colton. His ‘New Illustrated Family Atlas’ brought out a whole new series of maps into the upheaval of the American Civil War raging at the time. This map of Delaware and Maryland is a first edition from 1855 with an inset plan of the District of Columbia. Ristow (1985) p. 325.
