A good example of Blaeu’s map of the Bay of Cadiz in Spain. He did not produce many maps of individual towns indicating the importance of the town in the seventeenth century strategically. The town is laid out in some detail with numerous ships in the harbour or at anchor around the bay. The salt flats line the bay. The whole is beautifully decorated with an ornate title cartouche lower left. From Blaeu’s ‘Atlas Novus’ with French text to the verso. Van der Krogt, P. (Atlantes) 6115:2; Koeman, C. (Atlantes) I Bl 56.
BLAEU, Joan
