First edition. Before the French Revolution the Marquis de Barbe-Marbois had many important diplomatic functions and was the intendant general of Santo Domingo from 1785 to 1789. In 1803 he was the initial representative of France in negotiating the treaty of cession of Louisiana to the United States. The map is important for depicting the western extent of Louisiana at the 110th meridian. Provenance: Ex libris of D. Duguet. Howes B115; Sabin 3306; Streeter Sale 1599.
