An impressive three-quarter length portrait of Henry VIII (1491-1547). This is one of forty five plates engraved by John Faber Senior (c.1660-1721) for his work on the ‘Founders of Oxford and Cambridge Colleges, the Royal Exchange and Charterhouse’. The King is illustrated as founder of Christ Church This is an example of the numbered state, ‘6’ being in the lower right corner. Faber was born at the Hague and came to England with his son of the same name either c.1687 or 1695. He established a shop in the Strand near the Savoy in 1707.
