Thomas Kitchin’s ‘General Atlas’ was published by Robert Sayer from 1773. Kitchin died in 1782 and the atlas was taken over by Robert Laurie and James Whittle following Sayer’s death in 1794. They proceeded to expand the atlas and reissued it under the title ‘A New Universal Atlas’ in 1796. It is from this latter work that the map appears. Shirley BL T.Lau-1a no. 6.
