A large coloured map of the geological formations in California produced at the peak of the Gold Rush. It is colour coded to a key lower left which identifies nine different formations. The whole was mapped by Lieutenant R. S. Williamson of the Topographical Engineers. The towns of San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego are all identified. Several lakes are named but interestingly there is no Lake Tahoe.
