This early lithographic view of the west is from the official ‘Surveys and Reports to Find the Most Practical and Economical Route for a Railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean’. It was conducted at the behest of the Secretary of War. Drawn by Gustavus Sohon this view features Fort Vancouver the administrative headquarters for the Hudson’s Bay Company. It was also the regions main supply depot for the fur trading occurring in the region.
