An exceedingly rare high quality French botanical work, indeed we could find no record of an example on the market at any time. After extensive research of World-wide Institutions only one example could be traced: the Bibliothek des Germanischen National Museum, Nurnberg. There example however is described as bearing 12 plates only, that offered here bears 24. Nor is it mentioned in any bibliography that we could find. The work contains no written text and is a portfolio of prints with a printed front wrapper from which the title is drawn, this is bound into the work. Laure Deveria (1813-38) was an able flower painter and notable beauty in her day. She exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1833 and 1838 was awarded the third class gold medal in 1837. A collection or her watercolours resides at the Museum Nationale d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris. The quality of the plates is of the VERY HIGHEST STANDARD and comparable with the finest produced at the beginning of the nineteenth century in Paris, a high point in botanical art. Provenance: Gustav Bonde, Ohrbyhus, Uppsala; Wachtmeister, Stockholm. E. Hardouin-Fugier and E. Grafe ‘French Flower Painters of the Nineteenth Century’ p. 175.
