This rare French woodcut map of the British Isles is derived from that found in Girolamo Ruscelli’s ‘Geographia’, 1561. Whilst the map is derived from an Italian one, the text is a translation of Sebastian Munster’s ‘Cosmographia’ published in Basle by Francois de Belleforest (1530-83). He was a poet, historian and editor from Gascony, France. ‘La Cosmographie Universelle’ was published in 1575 in only the one edition.
