An attractive birds-eye view of Alexandria from above the water depicting the walled city. In the foreground are a number of sailing ships, two firing cannon. A lettered key above identifies notable buildings, the Dutch version upper left and the French upper right. The plate with both Dutch and French titles was first published by Jacob van Meurs in Olfert Dapper’s “Beschrijvinghe Der Afrikaensche …”. Later a number of the plates came into the hands of Pierre vander Aa in Leiden and were published in his great work “La Galerie Agreable Du Monde”.
