A very rare map of Albi to the north east of Toulouse, France. There is an fine inset view of the town upper right. This map first appeared in the 1643 edition of Tavernier’s ‘Theatre Geographique de la France’ which was first published in 1632. Melchoir Tavernier was a member of a prestigious family firm of cartographers started by his father Gabriel and uncle Mechoir I. The following year, 1644, he would sell much of the business to Pierre Mariette. Pastoureau Tavernier II C no. 102.
