An uncommon ptolemaic map of northern Africa by Johannes Honter (1498-1549). The ‘Cosmographiae Rudimentis’ was first published in Krakow in 1530 with just two maps. The first edition with a several maps was published in Zurich, 1546, with 14. This first Basle edition of 1561 was issued by Heinrich Petri, the same publisher behind many of Sebastian Munster’s works. A total of 24 maps accompanied this edition which are notable by the double ruled border surrounding them with markings of longitude and latitude.
