An extremely rare map of the county with an attractive vignette of Cheese Wring and an inset map of the Scilly Isles. Thomas Dix began the work for this atlas which was completed with the help of William Darton. Published in 1822 under the title of ‘A Complete Atlas of the English Counties’ it is of great rarity. Only three examples have appeared on the market in 20 years. This is an example of the third state as issued by Darton & Son in ‘The Counties of England’ in 1835 and 1838 but here separately issued with its own cover. Chubb 387; Quixley (1966) no. 50.
