Chart of the World Shewing the Religion, Population and Civilization of Each Country

395 x 770 mm., in early outline colour with wash to the sea, light toning at the folds, a couple of double folds near the binding repaired, with original publishers red paper boards, rebacked, otherwise in good condition.
The map bears numerous legends, one describing Mercator as the inventor of this projection. A pencil note identifies the first edition as being issued in 1815. Provenance: acquired in a bookshop in Museum Street by the British Museum January 1995; private collection of Rodney Shirley.
