An EXTREMELY RARE SEPARATELY PUBLISHED map by Alexis Hubert Jaillot (1628-88) was the leading French cartographer of the late seventeenth century. Born in the Franche-Comte he made his way to Paris with his brother Simon, an ivory carver, in 1657. In 1664 he married the daughter of the map publisher Nicolas Berey with whom he had seven children. Following Berey’s death in 1668 the two bought his father’s stock and began trading. This was issued the following year in 1669 and is therefore one of his very earliest works. Some years before he published his first atlas. Not in Pastoureau, refer to Jaillot; not in Shirley British Isles; Tooley’s Dictionary.
