The first state of a detailed map produced by arguably the greatest French cartographer of the eighteenth century. De L’Isle’s atlases are untitled and each example varies in content. This map features the Arabian peninsula and Egypt including the perceived source of the Nile. Early issues and states are particularly uncommon. Tibbetts no. 199, first state, not in Al-Qasami
