This detailed sea chart of the Seychelles is engraved by Lattre. The map includes Mauritius, Diego Garcia and has a large inset of the Seychelles. The source of the map is almost certainly the ‘Hydrographie Francoise’, the French government sponsored atlas of French waters. Bellin, who masterminded its early years, had died in 1772. The author of this chart is Jacques-Raymond Grenier, Vicomte de Giron (1736-1803). He was a French hydrographer who specialised in the Indian Ocean. Tooley’s Dictionary.
