Jacques Bellin was Hydrographer in the French Dépôt de la Marine. With access to the latest navigational reports, he produced a great many maps and charts of excellent quality. This particular map accompanied the ‘Histoire Générale des Voyages’ by Antoine Francois Prevost d’Exiles. This map of New England was issued just after the French and Indian War and centres on the main theatre of the conflict in North America. It was copied into Dutch, Italian and German editions as well as a later French one in 1783: this is the first issue. Brunet IV 868; Cox I p. 32; Hill 1391; McCorkle 757.1; Sabin 65402; Shirley BL G.Prev 1a.
