The very rare first issue of this seminal map of the region, depicted before the addition of New Orleans later in the same year. It is the FIRST MAP TO NAME TEXAS. Along the Trinity River we find ‘Mission de los Tiejas, etablie in 1716 …’ The map also recorded for the first time the routes of many explorers including de Soto (for the first time), La Salle, de Leon, St. Denis, Tonti and others. The significance and influence of this map cannot be overestimated. Cumming, W.P. (SE) 170; Martin & Martin pp.98-9; Schwartz & Ehrenberg pl.84; Tooley 43.
